Hi Guys!

Today we’re sharing our favourite lighting suppliers! If you are an interior designer, building a new home, renovating, upgrading your lighting, or just want to know the best places to buy lighting in New Zealand,  this list will have you sorted.

Lighting is such an important part of interior design and something we are passionate about as designers. As well as serving a functional purpose (chopping veggies without losing a finger), having the right lighting can add ambiance, depth, visual interest, and pull together your design style in a very powerful way. Often, we see cases where simply swapping out a feature light in a space is transformational!  At Newton & Kay, we adore lighting and spend endless hours (fun hours) scrolling through all of the options out there and we definitely have our go-to’s when specifying lighting for our clients. We hope that by sharing these with you, you will find your perfect pendant, wall sconce, or statement lighting.

SO, WHERE TO BUY LIGHTING IN NEW ZEALAND?..

ECC

We started with the big guns first!  If you are looking for a truly show stopping feature light then look no further than ECC. Exclusive stockists to some of the world’s leading lighting designers, they supply some seriously swoon worthy options! Prices run from high (I mean eye-wateringly high) to completely affordable. Based in Auckland with additional showrooms in Christchurch and Wellington, these guys are definitely one to check out – even if it’s just for a bit of eye candy!

BARDSLEYS LIGHTING & DESIGN

Supplying a massive collection of imported designer lighting, mainly from the USA, Bardsleys is the place to go to find the lights you’ve spied being used by those big name designers (cough cough Madame McGee).  Don’t let the country of origin put you off – all lighting is made and supplied to NZ electrical standards.  Bardsley’s is based in Auckland and prices range from mid range to high.

COCO REPUBLIC

You’ll find loads of accessible and on-trend lighting options from Coco Republic, an Australian furniture retail chain with a store in Auckland.  We’ve specified lighting for a few projects from these guys and customer service has been fantastic. Prices range from mid to high and, being a chain store, there are often decent sales.

MR RALPH

An NZ owned and operated business, based in Gordonton, Waikato,  Mr Ralph is a longtime favorite of Newton & Kay (Mr Ralph pendants above my kitchen island!). Most of their lighting is designed in-house, which we think is fab, and their collection is not only stylish, but affordable with prices in the low/mid to mid/high price range.  Mr Ralph also gets a massive fist bump for customer service as well.

ASSORTMENT

Assortment, a relatively new kid on the block, piqued our interest because of their very reasonable pricing – especially their large scale pieces! With many of their lights being designed in-house, including some replica-esque options at a quarter of the price, this is a great option if you want the ‘designer-look for less’! While their collection isn’t massive just yet, we predict this will change in the near future.

Let there be light!
